WALKABOUT IMAGES
began as "Northern Light Photography" in 1992.
After years as a fine art and graphics artist, guitarist and drummer, sculptor and ornamental ironworker...Photography seemed like a natural addition. Following first in the musical medium, I photographed Musicians throughout the United States, both local and national acts. Working as Director of Photography for "RockIt Chicago" magazine, and freelance, I amassed images from a diverse section of performers, from bluesmen Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Lonnie Brooks...Rockers such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Jethro Tull, Boston, Styx, Leslie West, Ted Nugent, Poison...to country superstars like Willie Nelson, Travis Tritt, Marty Stewart and Leanne Rhimes. The list is extensive, also including American novelist Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
TRAVEL
Over the years, Travel Photography and writing, became the primary focus...and Walkabout Images became a more apt title. A passion for travel, cultural immersion and sense of adventure
is what fuels Walkabout Images.
ENVIRONMENT
A published travel writer, avid outdoorsman and environmental activist...the philosophy is simple...
"Take only photographs...Leave only footprints."
By writing about and photographing the wildlife and natural resources of the world, we bring focus to it's beauty, and the need to conserve and revere it.
By capturing imagery of the vibrant cultures of our world, we promote knowledge and understanding, tolerance and respect for the wonderful diversity of people we share the planet with.
Cultural Immersion kicks ass, indeed...
PRESENT and FUTURE
"A Life Well Spent..."
aka "The Lunatic's Handbook"
A compilation of short stories and images is in progress, excerpts of which will surely pop up
on the site here from time to time..
Many new Photo Expeditions are planned within the next few years, including South America, Southeast Asia and Indochina, as well as return expeditions to my beloved Namibia, other regions of the
African Continent, China, the Middle East and Europe.
My fortune amassed, is the friendship of
my brothers and sisters at home, and throughout
the world. To the people I share this life and its
experiences with, I thank you for making it
happier, weirder, more interesting and vibrant.
Eyes and hearts always open, we forge our paths.
No Guts, No Glory...
Exploration...Laughter...Compassion...Knowledge...
all ingredients in a Life Well Spent...yes?
Peace, Mark
